When Backroad Mobile Health Isn't the Right Fit

We want to be upfront about what we can and can't help with, so you know what to expect before you request a visit.

Please call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room instead of requesting a Backroad visit if you or the person you're caring for has:

- Chest pain, or symptoms that could be a heart attack

- Signs of a stroke, such as sudden weakness, slurred speech, or facial drooping

- Severe trouble breathing, or an oxygen level that stays below 90%

- A severe allergic reaction with swelling, trouble breathing, or fainting

- Sudden, severe abdominal pain

- A major injury, uncontrolled bleeding, or a significant head injury

- A broken bone that pierces the skin, obvious displacement of the bone or a dislocated joint

- Sudden confusion or unresponsiveness

- Thoughts of harming yourself or others

- An overdose, poisoning, or chemical exposure

- High fever with a stiff neck, confusion, or a purple, spotty rash

- Severe swelling and pain in one leg

- Signs of a serious infection, such as a high fever with a racing heartbeat, confusion, or feeling extremely unwell

- Active labor or heavy vaginal bleeding during pregnancy

- A need for any procedure where the patient is unable to sit still

A few other things to know:

- Infants under 1 year old: we're not able to see infants under 12 months of age. Please contact your pediatrician, or go to urgent care or the ER, for infants who are sick or injured.

- Medicare: we are not able to see patients with Medicare coverage at this time.

- Prescriptions: Backroad Mobile Health does not routinely prescribe controlled substances (this includes many pain, anxiety, and ADHD medications). In limited situations a controlled substance may be prescribed at the provider's discretion, but this isn't something to plan on or request as a standard part of a visit.

- Ongoing chronic conditions: we're built for urgent, acute problems rather than managing ongoing conditions like diabetes or heart failure. We can treat mild asthma or COPD flare-ups. For moderate or severe flare-ups, or flare-ups of other chronic conditions, please go to the ER or contact your primary care provider.

- Vital signs outside a safe range: if your provider checks your heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen level, or temperature during your visit and finds something outside a safe range, we'll direct you to the ER right away rather than continue treatment on-site, for your safety.

None of this is meant to turn you away when you need help. It's meant to make sure you get the right kind of help, as fast as possible.
